Olympic champion, Ricky Berens elected as sponsor athlete for TYR
– Swimming news
American Olympic swimmer, Ricky Berens, is all set to perform his duties as a sponsorship athlete for TYR Inc. at Huntington Beach, California, from July 6 onwards.
Berens captured the gold medal in the Men’s 800m freestyle relay with a winning time of 6 minutes and 58.56 seconds ar the 2008 Olympic Games, in Beijing. He secured two gold medals in the Men’s 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle events at the 2009 World Championships,
in Rome.
He also grabbed golden crown in the 4x100m Individual Medley event at the 2007 Pan American Games, in Rio de Janeiro. In addition, he clinched gold in the 4x200m freestyle relay at the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships, in Irvine.
While speaking on his selection as a sponsorship athlete, Berens said, “I am elated to become a member of the TYR team. It is an honor to be sponsored by TYR, the premiere American swim company. I look forward to both training and competing in TYR, their
products are by far the best in the world.”
On the other hand, TYR Vice President of Sales, Ryan Dolan commented, “Ricky is a tremendous individual both personally and professionally. His character and personality exemplify the type of athlete we want brought into the TYR family.”
Ricky played a critical role in the laurels of the University of Texas in the 2010 NCAA Team Championships. Moreover, he assisted Longhorns Club in achieving the 800-Yard Freestyle Relay NCAA Title in 2009.
Currently, Berens is training hard under the guidance of his head coach, Dave Salo, at the Trojan Swim Club, in Los Angeles, California. The American athlete is all set to take part in the 2011 FINA World Championships, in Shanghai. The swimmer will compete
in the Men’s 800m freestyle relay event.
Berens claimed that he is in supreme form now and is hoping that he will clinch the gold title in the 4x200m freestyle relay finale in China, this month. Head coach, Dave Salo is also optimistic about his swimmer to perform well at the upcoming Shanghai
event.
