Olympic champion Darian Townsend dominates in super finals of Arizona Invitational – Swimming News
Olympic gold medallist, Darian Townsend of South Africa has edged out Adam Ritter of Tucson Ford, in the Men’s 200m freestyle super final of the Arizona Invitational at Tempe in Arizona, on May 29.
Townsend claimed the golden crown in the 200m freestyle super final with a distinctive time of 1 minute and 50.46 seconds. Ritter grabbed silver with a time of 1 minute and 51.51 seconds, while Eugene Godsoe of SwimMAC captured the bronze medal in 1 minute and 54.58 seconds. Josh Ginsborg of Fort Collins finished fourth in a time of 1 minute and 56.04 seconds.
Darian Townsend is a well-known surfer and as a competitive swimmer, he has won many titles in the sport also.
One of the peaks of his career was the 2004 Athens Olympics, where he claimed his first ever Olympic gold medal in the Men’s 4x100m freestyle event.
Tucson Ford’s swimmer, Darian Townsend, took home two bronze medals in the Men’s 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle finals in the 2010 Commonwealth Games. He also stood out in the 2007 All-African Games and won the bronze medal in the Men’s 200m IM final in Algiers.
The Women’s 200m freestyle title was nabbed by Alyssa Anderson of Tucson Ford with a winning time of 2 minutes and 05.58 seconds. Kat Simonovic of Sun Devil snatched silver in 2 minutes and 05.78 seconds, while her team-mate, Leone Vorster secured the third spot in 2 minutes and 05.93 seconds. Shannon Landgrebe settled fourth in 2 minutes and 05.96 seconds.
In the Women’s 100m backstroke super final event, Noriko Inada of Phoenix Swim Club claimed the gold medal with a matchless time of 1 minute and 01.61 seconds. The Japanese swimmer was excited and pleased with her performance in the event.
Last week, she snagged the gold medal in the Women’s 100m backstroke final with a sterling time of 1 minute and 03.63 seconds, at United Healthcare in Scottsdale. Inada has now improved to the 50th place in the world rankings.
Maggie Meyer of Tucson Ford took the silver medal in 1 minute and 03.52 seconds, while Vorster wound up third in a time of 1 minute and 06.42 seconds.
The Men’s 100m backstroke final was clinched by Nick Thoman of SwimMAC with a sterling time of 54.71 seconds. Godsoe claimed the silver medal with a time of 55.96 seconds and Townsend wound up third in 56.15 seconds, in the respective meet.
