Olympic medallist Takeshi Matsuda captures Men’s 200m butterfly crown - Mare Nostrum, Canet
Olympic medallist, Takeshi Matsuda of Japan, picked up the top seed in the Men’s 200m butterfly event of the 2011 Mare Nostrum at Canet in France, on June 9, 2011.
Matsuda claimed the golden crown in the following meet with a sterling time of 1 minute and 55.25 seconds. Earlier, he secured the fastest time of 1 minute and 54.12 seconds in the respective race.
After the event, the Japanese admitted that the race was a very intriguing and challenging one for him. He added that he won the meet over Ryusuke Sakata and Kaio Almeida, due to his speed, stamina and mental toughness.
Matsuda won the bronze medal in the Men’s 200m butterfly final at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. He claimed the golden crown in the corresponding meet in the 2003 Summer Universiade championships in Daegu. The Japanese swimmer also won two silver and
one bronze medal at the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine.
Ryusuke Sakata, who engaged in a neck-to-neck battle with Matsuda, clinched the silver medal in the Men’s 200m butterfly final with a winning time of 1 minute and 55.80 seconds.
After being placed second in the corresponding event, Sakata was very excited and pleased with his individual performance. Unfortunately, he was unable to break his previous record of 1 minute and 55.11 seconds in the following meet, which he set in April,
2011.
Occupying the third spot in the 200m butterfly final was Kaio Almeida, with a winning time of 1 minute and 56.00 seconds. The swimmer was just short of his previous record of 1 minute and 55.22 seconds in the following event.
Laszlo Cseh surprisingly wounded up fourth in the 200m butterfly final with a time of 1 minute and 56.50 seconds.
The next event to be held in the meet will be the Women’s 50m butterfly, where Therese Alshammar is looking confident to win the title. On the other hand, Gerhard Zandberg looks in good shape to claim the gold medal in the Men’s 50m back-stroke final.
