Olympic roster of GB women’s team revealed – Volleyball News
The British Volleyball Federation (BVF) has revealed the roster of women’s national volleyball team for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
According to the set rules of the competition, a total of twelve players have been named to the Olympic team of Great Britain. Lucy Wicks from Alemannia Aachen, Germany and Dutch Joanne Morgan will be attached with the team as setters.
Originally from Spain, 26-year old Lynne Beattie is included in the team as outside hitter (OH). Likewise, Rachel Bragg, Savanah Leaf, Janine Sandell, and Jennifer Taylor will also play in the same capacity of OH. Furthermore, the British team will have three middle blockers in the form of Lizzie Reid, Grace Carter, and Ciara Michel. The native of Switzerland Maria Bertelli will perform her duties as the libero, while Rachel Laybourne will act opposite for the team.
Lynne Beattie will also have the influential role of captain in the team. She was more than happy to be featured on the 12-player roster of the British team for the Olympics. She expressed her emotions in the following manner: “I feel honoured to be a part of this amazing team of players and staff who have all been working so hard for the last five years in order to be where we are today, on the brink of our first Olympic Games.”
She further added: “We look forward to performing at Earls Court Arena in front of a home crowd and doing the British public proud!” The skipper of the home team expressed confidence at the prospects of her team picking up Olympic victories.
The Women’s Olympic Volleyball Tournament will get the green light on July 28, while British team will enter the competition alongside teams from Italy, Russia, Japan, Dominican Republic and Algeria in Pool A. The tournament will be opened with the pool-play and top four teams from each pool will advance to the next stage of the tournament. Prelims will be followed by quarter-finals and the tournament will come to an end with the final four matches.
British ladies are resolved to use the competitive edge of playing at home, in order to gain positive results against some of the top volleyball teams in the competition.
