Olympic roster of Great Britain men’s volleyball team revealed – Volleyball News
In the recent memory, the hosts of the 2012 Olympic Games the Great Britain revealed its 12-player roster of men’s Olympic volleyball team.
The roster of GB squad features Kieran O’Malley (setter), Jason Haldane (opposite), Andrew Pink (Outside Hitter), Dan Hunter (Defensive Expert/libero), Joel Miller (OH), Dami Bakare (Opposite), Nathan French (OH), Mark Plotyczer (OH), Chris Lamont (Middle-blocker),
Mark McGivern (MB), Peter Bakare (MB), and Ben Pipes (captain/setter).
Speaking of the Olympics, the Team GB Chef de Mission Andy Hunt said: “All of these athletes have worked tremendously hard to make this a possibility and we’re confident that we have two squads ready to put on a great display and give a fantastic account
of themselves in London.”
“The volleyball players and everyone involved have had to make huge sacrifices to make this a possibility so we all share in their excitement now that the Olympics Games are less than a month away and their selection is made official,” he further added.
This is going to be the first time that British team will make an appearance at the Olympic Games. Ben Pipes will lead the GB squad in captain’s shoes. He congratulated all the players, who made their way to the Olympic roster. He called it a massive breakthrough
for British Volleyball to be able to play in the Olympics.
GB men’s national volleyball team will open the tournament in Pool B. The hosts will be joined by teams from Italy, Bulgaria, Poland, Argentina, and Australia. It will be tough road for British team, but the home team is determined to take up the challenge.
The hosts will be equipped with emotional support of local fans and they will also have the competitive advantage over visiting teams in the competition.
The GB squad faced a lot of financial problems in the recent years, which hindered the overall growth of the team. Nevertheless, the team should not be underestimated as it has the potential to give a good competition to any international team out there.
The Men’s Olympic Volleyball Tournament is set to be kicked off on July 29. The clock is ticking down quickly and there is less than a month’s time left in the opening of the event. Soon the action will start and the participating teams will get a chance
to showcase their skills in front of international audience.
