In this years games how many events are there total and how many medals would be awarded.

So for example, Olympic swimming relay has 4 team members so that is 4 gold 4 silver and 4 bronze. 12 medals for 1 event. Football(soccer) has 11 players per team, thats 33 G S B medals.

Basically it is events X 3 X team members(1 if individual event)

But how many events and medals in total?

Thanks J

  1. Yes it is dam stupid having teams of 11 or so in the Olympics. I thought that it was individual performance not the team that counted, anyway what prat thought to include such overrated, so called, sports as football, basket ball and other such idiocies.

OH number about 200 I would say and most from the likes of football not worth the striking.

  2. Is this secretly your maths homework? Thats too much to work out lol

  3. When a team (swimming relay, soccer, etc) earns a medal, although each athlete physically receives a medal, it only counts as one medal win toward the overall total.  There are about 300 medal events this Olympiad.  I haven't seen an exact count of the number of medals physically made.  Since many sports always have the possibility of a tie, there are probably a few extra more made up than are truly needed.
