Olympics 08 rules???

what are the rules that decide what country you can compete for? like do u have to have lived in the country for a certain amount of years, or did u haveto b born there??? please no guesses, i really want to know the truth, cuz i coudnt find anything on the comp

  1. You have to be a citizen  


  2. Citizenship is how they decide these things.

    You can obtain citizenship either through lineage (relatives that are from there), or by living there for a certain period of time, depending on the country in question.

    You don't necessarily have to be born there.

    Ex: Kevin Tan, US gymnast, born in China, but obtained US citizenship.

    Matt Grevers, US swimmer, debated swimming for the Netherlands, because both of his parents are native Dutch.
