The medals the US team at the 2008 Summer Olympics earned:

Gold: 36

Silver: 38

Bronze: 36

Total: 110

According to the International Olympic Committee, there is no official country winner or placement declared based on the number of medals won during the Olympics.  Anyone who declares that a specific country "won" the Olympics is doing so independently without the blessing of the IOC.
