Olympics may bring Jesus on Primrose Hill – London Olympics 2012
Plans to make a sculpture of Jesus to mark the end of the London 2012 Olympics Games have recently been uncovered by the Camden New Journal.
According to the information obtained by the Journal, the Jesus sculpture will be a replica of the one that is currently present in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. The construction of the sculpture will signify the end of the London 2012 Olympics and
the passing of the responsibility to hold the Games to the capital of Brazil, which is next in line to hold the Olympics event.
The site that is being considered for the putting up of the statue is the Primrose Hill which is located in the north of London. However, it is not yet final that Primrose Hill would play host to the statue of Jesus as public opinion is first being determined
about the acceptance of the statue in the locality.
Embratur, which is the national tourist board of Brazil, made the following comments on the matter through its embassy present in London, “This is only a concept that was being considered as part of a wider platform of promotional activities for Embratur
and the Brazilian Government for 2012, when the focus moves from London to Rio.”
Whiling baring the plans of the statue, the Journal also mentioned that the idea has yet to pass under the scrutiny of the planning department of the local council. Once the plan does pass through, the government of Brazil would be providing the funds to
make the replica Jesus statue a reality.
According to some local research conducted by the Embratur, there are not many people who are receptive to the idea of having a statue at Primrose Hill.
Malcolm Kafetz, who is the chairman of conservation group the Friends of Primrose Hill, gave his opinion to the Journal by making the following statements, “I do not see why it should go there ... It does not represent anything of England or Primrose Hill.”
The original statue that is present in Brazil is 130 foot tall however; the replica would be as high as 30 foot.
