olympics and sport in general is important to peoples lives. it keeps the athletes fit. they enjoy their chosen sport. is that wrong?  football is a big part of peoples lives? is that wrong?  everyone to their own as far as sport is concerned. live and let live. the olympics are not doing any harm  so leave them to it and ignore it if you dont like it. i personally love to watch sport and the olympics. not this time as its from the barbaric chinese. but normally i love the olympics

The Olympics are great.  I love watching and pulling for the athletes from my country (USA).  How can you not love seeing all the best athletes in the world compete?  

The other 98% of their life is the same boring c**p that everyone is doing.  We want to see the part where they are extraordinary.

I once suggested that we have an Olympics for spiritual strength and another one for intellectual prowess.  My idea went nowhere.  :-)

The reason is as old as time, COMPETITION, to be a better runner, jumper, swimmer etc., etc., than the next person, means more to certain people than anything else. As you say ,rightly,  it plays no part in everyday life. I suppose its important to some people who maybe have low self esteem, but can be outstanding in sports, and feel the great need to win. Maybe I`m a little peeved I am hopeless at all things sporty!! but there again, trying to be better than my fellow man has never appealed to me.

they are  pointless not one of these people will ever find  cure for cancer etc you know something that would really help out mankind yet they are hailed as heroes.

the Olympics is a massive waste of tax payers money just look how much the Brit government is wasting on this vanity project.

i wouldn't care if it was self funding - sponsorship deals TV rights etc.

hey there could even be an Olympic world wide lottery so only those who like seeing this glorified school sports day fund it.

i think the Olympics are so funny a bunch of coach potatoes watching drug riddled people run about a bit.

Like our favourite hobby might take a back seat to work, sleep, family time etc....

I'm human and I don't care about sport at all.  Olympic TV coverage just means I am paying my tv licence for nothing.
