French duo, Olympique Lyonnias and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 settle for a draw at the Stade Gerland as both sides refrained from playing attacking football. The coaches; Remi Garde and Elie Baup feel that their players presented a
good show and played responsibly, with the result being good enough for both of the Ligue 1 outfits.
Remi Garde believes that the both of the teams were afraid to play an open game as none of the side wanted to lose. The Lyon-based club started the game off well but maintained a defensive game play throughout the game, trying
not to be caught off guard due to a counter-attack by their opponents. The coach had no complaints regarding the way his players played as he believes that Les Gones did everything that was asked of them. He said:
"It was not a very open game between two teams who were desperate not to concede the first goal, especially in the first half. We did everything we could, and gave everything. It just didn't work.”
Garde added:
“I have no regrets."
On the other hand, the visitors found it to be a hard task to play against a team having calibre that of Olympique Lyon. The Marseille-based club were determined to produce a better result for them, unlike the last time when they
were thrashed by Les Gones.
Elie Baup believes that the real competition took place in the midfield. The coach wanted his players to pressurise their opponents and that’s what they did. The Frenchman emphasised upon the importance of points, both at home
and away from home saying:
"It was all about commitment out there. It was a real battle in midfield. Our aim was to press them from the off and we succeeded at that. We must collect points at home but also away from home sometimes.”
The former goalkeeper is optimistic about Les Phoceens return to Europe next season as be believes that there are still a few games left to play that can change the scenario of who will be qualifying for representing French Ligue
1 in Europe. He explained:
“There are still ten games to go and we need to keep going. The spirit we showed here can help us.”
