The Rhone giants are all geared up to carry on with their winning streak at Les Roses after emerging victorious in the previous two matches of the campaign and a victory in Trophees des Champions
The bright start to the campaign by Lyon was the first in over three decades, as after successfully emerging triumphant against Montpellier in the Trophees des Champions, Lyon went on to beat Rennes and ESTAC Troyes.
The comeback win and that too with a thumping victory against Troyes in the last match speaks volumes of the current form of Remi Garde’s men, after having beaten Rennes on season’s opening day. The star of the night Bafetimbi Gomis struck twice for the
home side, while Michel Bastos and Lisandro Lopez also added to the score-sheet.
The last time Lyon could manage three out of three victories at the start to a campaign, it dates back to the 1981-82 campaign. Les Gones emerged victorious in the opening four fixtures of that campaign but went on to end the season on a paltry 16th spot.
However, Garde is not fazed by the statistics and is convinced that his side can continue with the incredible run. The match against Evian is no different, according to the Lyon manager. The track record says it all as les Roses have succumbed to defeats
in all three previous meetings.
But, this is not the only aspect to give boost to the Lyon side. According to Remi Garde, “We have taken six points from two games and that must give us ideas and confidence in ourselves. It should especially give us the desire to keep our run going for
as long as possible .The longer we keep it going the more meaning being top will carry”.
However, the manager did not want his team to be carried away by the good start as he cautiously uttered, “It is merely anecdotal that we are top of the table because we are still a long way from the finish line”.
In a major setback to Lyon, star playmaker Yoann Gourcuff would me missing in the starting eleven, as he faces sidelines due to an injury in the right knee. His absence is described by Remi Garde as “very annoying”.
