Olympique Lyonnais boss takes positives from Paris Saint-Germain draw
Olympique Lyonnais manager Claude Puel says that there are positives he can take from his side's Ligue 1 stalemate with Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday 28 November.
Lyon defender Aly Cissokho put the home side ahead in the 53rd minute, but PSG hit back 10 minutes later through Brazilian midfielder Luis de Carvalho Nene. The visitors then took the lead when striker Guillaume Hoarau netted a penalty in the 83rd minute.
Then Bafetimbi Gomis scored with just three minutes to go to rescue a point for Lyon with a 2-2 draw.
Despite the disappointment of failing to pick up all three points, Puel was pleased with the overall performance following a UEFA Champions League win over German outfit Schalke in midweek.
He told Goal.com, "It's a disappointment. It's good to have been able to equalise despite the numerical disadvantage, which shows character, but we had chances to double our lead. I believe we have delivered in a big game. There were good performances
from both sides, including the fast counterattacks from our opponents. On our part, we played a good match, considering we played in Europe during the week.
“The first goal we conceded was our fault, as we did not defend well. Everything has not been perfect for us, and it would have been unfair to lose. We must continue to get points and progress, beating the top teams when we face them. It would have been
nice to win this match.”
The result means that Lyon are still in seventh place in Ligue 1, but with the top teams so close together, they are just two points behind leaders Olympique de Marseille.
Lyon's next chance to move to the top of the table will come when they play Montpellier away from home on Saturday 4 December.
