Olympique Lyonnais defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cris-c9486 keen on starting against Nancy – Ligue 1 news
Fit-again Brazilian defender, Cris has said that he is keen on playing his second game this season for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 when Les Gones take on Nancy Lorraine in the Week 10 of the 2011/2012 Ligue 1 season.
The defender has been nursing a thigh injury which has restricted him to just one game this season. However, like his fellow countryman http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ederson-c11880, who is also recovering from a thigh injury, the veteran defender is now looking to come back in contention for
a starting place in a Lyon side that has made a great start to the new campaign.
Currently in third place in the Ligue 1 standings, Remi Garde’s side boast some of the most exciting young players in the Ligue 1 and Cris knows that it will be hard for him to command a regular starting spot in the team.
At the age of 34, Cris’ no longer has the pace but the Brazilian’s experience of playing regularly at the top level is something Remi Garde highly appreciates. The likes of Croatian international http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dejan-Lovren-c10779 and Burkinabe international Bakary Kone have
taken their chances and are now crucial pieces of the Lyon back four.
“I am coming back with a huge desire to play. It is difficult to go two months without playing,” said the Brazilian international.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-Lloris-c16408 kept the captain’s armband in the absence of Cris and it is believed that Remi Garde might give the Frenchman the captain’s armband on a permanent basis.
Cris however, is not worried about losing the captaincy of the side that he joined in 2004 and has said that he is more concerned about how he performs on the field.
“My aim is to play and not to get the captain’s armband, I’ve already played without being captain and was named the best defender in Ligue 1. I can still be a leader without that. I’m not going to bother Remi about it,” said the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cruzeiro-c38870 man.
The Brazilian international’s return to full fitness is certainly a boon for Remi Garde as the French tactician would benefit a lot from the presence of a player who has been at the club for a long time and has always been committed to the Lyon cause.
