The Ligue 1 giants have to part ways with at least one star player in a bid to reduce the club’s payroll and reports claim that it could come down to a straight choice between Bafetimbi Gomis and Michel Bastos
This winter, before buying a new player, Ligue 1 giants http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michel-Bastos-c25461 have been linked with a move away from Stade
de Gerland as Jean-Michel Aulas seeks to do something about the wage bill that has given the president many a sleepless nights.
While talking to OL TV on Saturday, Aulas admitted that it would be a shame to lose either of the two aforementioned players.
“We think it would be a shame to lose two,” said the Lyon supremo who despite knowing that Bastos and Gomis have done well this season, need to be sacrificed.
However, neither player is really keen on leaving the Rhone club. But with Les Gones left with no choice but to continue trimming down the age bill which has already gone down from 92.9 million euros to 62.4 million euros this season, needs to be reduced
further.
However, selling either of the two players presents in itself a dilemma that has got Aulas and coach Remi Garde thinking.
Bafetimbi Gomis has been in mercurial form this season for his side and has already found the net 11 times in the league. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international has become a very important element in Garde’s starting XI. However, the player commands a great transfer value
which Lyon would need.
Michel Bastos on the other hand, after coming back from injury, has started proving why he is so highly rated. Despite facing competition from the likes of Rachid Ghezzal and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858 international has performed well whenever called
into action.
However, Garde has options in this particular area so Bastos might be forced out of the club even if that is not what the Brazilian wants.
Gomis and Bastos are not the only players who might leave the club this January. Young Bakary Kone has quietly slipped down the hierarchy of Lyon defenders after making such a promising start last season. The youngster might be forced to look elsewhere especially
after the emergence of Naby Sarr who many feel, is a future Lyon star.
