Olympique Lyonnais keeping tabs on CS Sedan youngster Wes Lautoa – Ligue 1 news
In their hunt for a new defender, Ligue 1 side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 have been linked with several centre-backs in recent weeks.
The likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Uruguay-c3035 international Miguel Britos have been recently linked with a move to Stade Gerland this summer.
Reports in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 now indicate that newly-appointed Lyon coach Remi Garde has identified 23-year-old Wes Laotoa as a possible target for this summer.
Laotoa is currently playing in the Ligue2 with CS Sedan and is under contract with Les Sangliers until 2013. However, the youngster’s recent performances in Ligue 2 have caught the eye of many Ligue 1 clubs. LOSC Lille, Saint-Etienne, Valenciennes and FC
Lorient are all reportedly keeping tabs on the talented defender.
The youngster made 12 appearances in the 2010/2011 Ligue 2 season for Sedan which was his first season at the club. the youngster’s versatility in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904 and his ability to fill in as a defensive midfielder is one of the reasons why Remi Garde is looking
to sign him. The youngster played a few games at left-back position for Sedan – a position that needs improvement in Lyon’s case.
However, Laotoa is still very inexperienced and needs further development which means that Garde is not looking at Laotoa as a quick solution to Lyon’s defensive woes. The likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ezequiel-Garay-c13071 (Real Madrid) are far more experienced
than Laotoa so the youngster’s signing (if it happens), would be more of a future investment made by Lyon.
Lyon will also have to compete with the likes of Saint-Etienne, Lille and Lorient for the signature of the youngster as all these clubs have been following the player’s growth for a long time. The departure of Pape Diakhate to parent club Dynamo Kyiv means
that Lyon will have to find a suitable defender ahead of the 2011/2012 Ligue 1 season but for the time being, Laotoa does not fall into that category.
Though Lyon are not looking to break the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bank-c38601 in the transfer market this time around, the club should be looking to bring in at least one solid defender after a disappointing 2010/2011 campaign in which Les Gones’ defensive frailties were evident.
