Coach Remi Garde has confirmed reports that Rhone giants are in the search of a new midfielder before the transfer window closes amidst scarcity in centre
Pre-season matches did not feature the likes of Kim Kallstrom, Jeremy Pied and Ederson for Lyon and Garde had to strongly rely on Yoann Gourcuff. However, with 26-year-old Gourcuff out on the sidelines due to a serious injury, Lyon is left with no option
but to fill the void in the midfield.
The summer transfer window is more relaxed for French clubs than other European clubs, which means that les Gones still have time to hunt for the right man. The transfer window will close its gates on French clubs on the 4th of September this
month.
Lyon have started the season on a high with a victory against Montpellier earlier in the Trophee des Champions. Remi Garde believes that it is important to continue with the run, as he plans to bring in another midfielder to bolster his fragile midfield.
Speaking to the reporters after a nail-biting victory over Valenciennes, Remi Garde confirmed his plans to strengthen his squad by saying, “If an opportunity arises to reinforce this area (midfield), it is possible that someone arrives.”
Upon being further quizzed about whether the possibility of signing Clement Chantome from Paris saint-Germain is still in his mind, Remi was not very optimistic about it.
“This is a player who I was very interested in at the beginning of the transfer window because he has exactly a profile complementary to that of Max (Gonalons)”. However, he was quick to add, “Now, I think it would be very complicated (to reach an agreement)
with Paris”, explained the 46-year-old.
Lyon had started their season on a high note, securing 3 wins in four matches and currently topping the points table. The impending loophole in the midfield is not going to do any good to Lyon, and henceforth, players need to be recruited.
It will be interesting to note that which player catches interest from Lyon as they plan to reinforce in their midfield ranks. Speculations suggest many names but only time will tell what is destined for Remi Garde.
