Olympique Marseille’s Didier Deschamps regrets leaving Juventus – Serie A Update
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 head coach, Didier Deschamps, believes that he made the wrong decision when he left the Turin giants, Juventus FC, back in 2007. The former French footballer admits that it was a hasty decision on his part, but insists that he is happy
in the French top flight.
Deschamps came to a beaten and disgraced La Vecchia Signora, who were relegated to Serie B in the wake of 2006 Calciopoli scandal. The scandal had left many big names fined due to match fixing allegations, but Juve were the ones who suffered the most. The
Lady Killers were stripped off two league titles and were made to play in the second division.
These were hard times for the Italian giants as many star players like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gianluigi-Buffon-c14833 stayed loyal to the
club.
The Frenchman took over the outfit for the 2006/07 season and the Turin giants topped the 2nd division, making their way straight back into the top tier Serie A. Even though he had a great first term with the Bianconeri, Deschamps choose to leave
the outfit and resigned from his appointment.
The former defensive midfielder, after his resignation, spent two years jobless before coming to Ligue 1 outfit, Marseille, in 2007. The tactician recently commented on his hasty decision of leaving La Vecchia Signora.
"My departure from Juve remains regret, a mistake that taught me one thing - never make an immediate decision, at the end of the season, when everyone is 'boiling'. I have paid for such an experience," Deschamps told L'Equipe.
"Marseille were my first option, the club owner Margarita Louis-Dreyfus has always shown an exemplary behaviour toward me and President Vincent Labrune has always answered the questions I asked him. The club will celebrate in 2013 its 20th anniversary of
the Champions League victory and I want to be there.” He concluded.
Deschamps extended his contract at Les Phoceens in June last year. Though his contract runs out in summer of 2012, the French tactician is keen to extend his stay beyond that.
