Olympique de Lyonnais coach Claude Puel being monitored by AS Monaco and Seville FC
According to reports in Lyon, Olympique de Lyonnais coach, Claude Puel is attracting interest from AS Monaco and La Liga side, Seville FC. It is become increasingly likely that Puel would not be Lyon coach come the end of the current campaign.
After taking over the Lyon coaching role in 2008, Claude Puel has failed to win the Ligue 1 title with the former champions. Although, Puel guided Lyon to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League in 2009/10 season for the first time in the club’s history,
failure to win major silverware has not won him any support from the club’s fans.
The Lyon management is currently looking for someone who can replace Puel. However, Puel would not remain jobless for a long time even if his contract at Lyon is terminated. If the reports are to be believed, fellow French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco would be
ready to offer him a coaching position at the club.
Claude Puel made his name with AS Monaco and managed the side from 1999 to 2001. The Frenchman had two great seasons at the club as he lifted the Ligue 1 Championelle, Trophee des Champions and the Coupe de la Ligue. However, AS Monaco are not the only club
interested in signing the coach. Rumours suggest that La Liga side, Seville FC are keen on taking Puel on board. Seville are currently eighth in the league standings and it has been suggested that current manager, Gregorio Manzano won’t be at the Ramon Sanchez
Pizjuan the next season.
The Frenchman still has one year left on his contract, and it remains to be seen if Lyon will axe Claude Puel after the current campaign comes to an end. Lyon are currently third in the league standings with 53 points from 31 games. Lyon lost to Paris Saint-Germain
on Sunday – a result that has put them out of the title race. With so much uncertainty surrounding both the coach and the players’ future, it seems that Puel is likely to walk away from a club that has failed to lift the Ligue 1 crown after winning it seven
times in a row.
