Olympique de Lyonnais keeping tabs on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Uruguay-c3035 international Diego Lugano – Report
Reports in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 suggest that seven-time Ligue 1 champions Olympique de Lyonnais are considering making a bid for Uruguay international Diego Lugano.
Lugano is currently playing for Turkish giants Fenerbahce and was a key player for the Uruguayan side that reached the semi-final of the FIFA World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757 last year. Lyon reportedly spent around 100 million Euros in the transfer markets of 2009
and 2010 but it didn’t really help much as Lyon failed to add to their seven domestic titles.
Furthermore, with the club recording losses of 35.6 million Euros in the 2009/2010 season, Les Gones directors are looking to be more cautious and wise in the current transfer window. The departure of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Senegal-c3001 international Pape Diakhate to parent club Dynamo
Kyiv has left the Rhone giants short on defensive personnel. Reports now suggest that Les Gones are looking to launch an official bid for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-c11058 Lugano.
The 30-year-old centre-back arrived at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium in the summer of 2006 from Brazilian giants Sao http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paulo-c29431 for a fee believed to be worth around 7.5 million Euros. At that time, the South American signed a three-year contract but signed a four-year
extension to his contract in 2009. ‘TOTA’, as he is called by fans has been a valuable part of Fenerbahce and has scored 26 goals in over 182 appearances.
Lugano’s contract at Fenerbahce expires in the summer of 2013 which means that Fenerbahce would want at least 10 million Euros for the player. However, Lyon might not be willing to pay so much for the player as it would go against the club’s new policy of
limiting the payroll.
AC Milan defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos is another defender who is under the radar of Les Gones. The Greek international is also attracting interest from the German Bundesliga with Werder Bremen monitoring the youngster’s progress. Signing Diego Lugano
would therefore be a difficult one for the French side as the player is happy at the Turkish club and the club is also reluctant to let go of him.
