Cameroon international, Stephane Mbia joined Olympique de Marseille from Stade Rennais in the summer of 2009 and cost Les Phoceens around 10 million Euros.
For two and a half years, Stephane has been at OM at though his performances have been reassuring; his injury has caused a few worries. Currently injured, Mbia is expected to make a return before Marseille play their Champions League round of 16 game against
Italian Serie A side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan.
While talking to media, the defensive midfielder/centre-back said that the club wants to win everything and needs to be ambitious in its approach.
“We want to win everything. Even the Champions League, we can do it this year. We must be ambitious,” says the 25-year-old.
Reports in French media suggest that Paris Saint-Germain are keen on signing the Cameroonian. However, Mbia has totally ruled out a possibility of joining the Ile side.
“I signed up over time. I am very well here. I am committed to Marseille until 2014. I could never play for PSG, I still prefer to play in Cameroon,” said Mbia who is opposed to the thought of signing for Marseille’s bitter rivals.
Since his arrival at Marseille, Mbia’s has had to play in different defensive and midfield positions. Didier Deschamps prefers him as a centre-back rather than a midfielder but says that he has learned a lot due to these changes.
At the mention of the clash between Jose Anigo and Deschamps, Mbia did well to keep young defender Nicolas N’Koulou in good shape.
“When I arrived, Modeste (Mbami) made me realise that I had to watch where I was getting into. I made the same speech to Nico (N’Koulou).”
It is a fact that Mbia has changed a lot and has become a mature player. At Marseille, Mbia has found a lot of stability and has formed one of the best defensive pairings in Ligue 1 with Nicolas N’Koulou.
In the future, Mbia might be given the captain’s armband as he has already shown his leadership qualities well.
