Relegation looming large for Auxerre
It is quite a surprise that out of all the clubs in the Ligue 1, it is Auxerre who are flirting with relegation. Last season Auxerre finished third in the league and played in the UEFA Champions League this season. Things have not been great for the Burgundy
club on the domestic front. Currently, AJA are in 16th place in the league table, two points away from the relegation zone.
Auxerre coach Jean Fernandez had two spells as Marseille manager and knows that relegation would be catastrophic for a club that did so well last season. With a lengthy list of absentees including captain, Benoit Pedretti, Jean Fernandez knows that guiding
the team to safety would require a huge effort.
While talking to the media, the under-pressure coach said, "There is a worry there and we still need two wins to make sure of our Ligue 1 future. We are not in the drop zone and, psychologically, that is important.''
