While talking to reporters, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 coach Didier Deschamps said that he has still not given up the Championelle to Paris Saint-Germain and Montpellier Herault despite being in fourth place in the standings
As Olympique de Marseille get ready to host http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan in their first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16, Didier Deschamps took some time out to review Olympique de Marseille’s objectives for the 2011/2012 Ligue 1 campaign.
Currently in fourth place in the Ligue 1 standings, Les Phoceens trail LOSC Lille by three points. Les Dogues are in the last Champions League spot which means that the race for the last Champions League spot is wide open.
Furthermore, Les Phoceens are level on points with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130, Stade Rennais and Saint-Etienne but have a game in hand over the chasing pack.
However, despite being almost out of a Championelle assault (according to many fans), Didier Deschamps is not giving up on winning the league just yet. The former Juventus manager feels that there are still a lot of games to be played and is refusing to
rule out his team.
“Today, being lucid, third place is very accessible for us. We have four or five teams to fight for this place. Both are fighting for first so a lot can change,” says Deschamps who has seen his team made a great start to the new year.
For his side, qualification for the Champions League is very important as the club’s financial situation has been tricky to say the least in recent months.
However, Deschamps is still wary of his side’s chances of lifting the title. The Frenchman believes that Paris Saint-Germain might finish the campaign as champions.
“Paris can end on the podium for sure. Certainly one of the two top spots. After that, there is Montpellier. This is a quality team with a lot of confidence.”
Finally, the French tactician also mentioned the transfer window. Vincent Labrune indicated that OM will solely focus on the best French players in order to save a lot of money.
However, this certainly does not mean that the club would splash the cash in order to sign Montpellier duo Belhanda and Giroud.
