Olympique de Marseille condemn Paris Saint-Germain to second straight defeat – Ligue 1 news
Stade Velodrome, Marseille saw beleaguered French Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille turn out their best performance of the season so far when they defeated bitter rivals Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in Week 15 of the 2011/2012 Ligue 1 Championelle.
This was the first Clasico of the season and Marseille headed into this game after a string of poor results in the month of November. However, Didier Deschamps’ men turned out a great performance to record their third consecutive victory against PSG at the
Stade Velodrome.
The result was even more symbolic for the Rhone giants as they had lost 1-0 to league leaders Montpellier in Week 14 and their Champions League hopes also suffered a major blow following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Greek giants Olympiakos.
PSG on the other hand, headed into this game on the back of a shocking 1-0 loss at home at the hands of Nancy Lorraine.

Loic Remy. The French striker rose above http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Salvatore-Sirigu-c32282.
Argentine international Lucho Gonzalez started his first game for Les Phoceens since mid-October and played a perfect decoy for Loic Remy by directing Lugano away from the penalty box. This was Remy’s fifth headed goal of the season which shows that the
youngster’s aerial ability has improved a lot than last season.
On the other end, a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Pastore-c18082, OM maintained their discipline and completely shutout the PSG attacking line-up.
However, Marseille suffered a major setback when Loic Remy was replaced by young Jordan Ayew due to an ankle injury. Soon afterwards, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steve-Mandanda-c34177
heaved a sigh of relief.
Javier Pastore and Jeremy Menez were certainly not at their best and the duo kept on losing possession of the ball more often than not.
An ineffective attack forced PSG coach Antoine Kombouare to sub Javier Pastore and Kevin Gameiro in the 60th minute for Mevlut Erdinc and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mathieu-Bodmer-c24679. Gameiro was clearly not satisfied with the decision as he took his place on the bench.
With just 25 minutes left to play for, Marseille scored a second goal to increase their advantage. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Blaise-Matuidi-c7681 was caught in possession of the ball and Morgan Amalfitano stole the ball from the former Saint-Etienne man. Amalfitano then passed the ball
to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-Ayew-c19098 who slipped a beautiful ball to Amalfitano who buried the ball beyond Sirigu.
However, this was not to be the last action of the game. Marseille kept possession of the ball and dominated the midfield. Their neat passing was rewarded when Andre Ayew’s accurate cross was met by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Morgan-Amalfitano-c26799 who diverted his header beyond Sirigu
to make it 3-0.
This was the first time Amalfitano had scored a goal for Marseille since joining the club from Lorient this summer and the brace couldn’t have come at a better time for the Frenchman.
The result now means that Montpellier keep their place at the top of the standings while PSG now chase the Herault-based club by 3 points. Marseille on the other hand, move into 9th position and are slowly making their way back into the top end
of the Ligue 1 standings.
