Olympique de Marseille consider making a move for Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou – Ligue 1 news
Reports in French media suggest that Ligue 1 giants http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 are considering making a move for Ivory Coast international Salomon Kalou in the upcoming winter transfer window.
Les Phoceens are already in the market for a new striker and coach Didier Deschamps sees Kalou as a successor to Andre-Pierre Gignac who has had a torrid time since joining the Rhone club in the summer of 2010.
Kalou is currently under contract at English Premier League side Chelsea FC where the Ivorian is clearly unsatisfied at the lack of opportunities in the starting XI. Since joining the Londoners from Dutch giants http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 in 2006, the Ivorian has never really
been an integral part of the starting XI at Stamford Bridge.
On the other hand, Andre-Pierre Gignac’s recent outburst with Deschamps could still be on the mind of the French tactician. Though Vincent Labrune’s arbitration to pacify the situation has allowed the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international to return to the senior squad, Gignac
might never be able to consolidate his position at Stade Velodrome.
Turkish giants Fenerbahce and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfL-Wolfsburg-c40881 are already monitoring Gignac’s situation at the club and Vincent Labrune is also looking at other striking options ahead of the transfer window.
RMC understands that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Sturridge-c10076 and Anelka.
However, even if Marseille are able to sign the striker, it won’t do the club any good in Europe. The Ivorian has already appeared twice in the Champions League for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and if the Blues are able to qualify for the next round of the competition, Marseille
would not be able to field the Ivorian in their European squad.
Furthermore, with the African Cup of Nations co-hosted by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Equatorial-Guinea-c2892 on the horizon, Marseille will see their new signing away from action for at least three weeks. This poses problems for Deschamps as he would already be without the services
of Andre Ayew and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ghana-c2905 in the CAN.
Looking elsewhere in the market for the time being is a better option for Marseille as most of the African players will chose country over club when the tournament kicks off.
