Reports in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Lorient-c39153.
Marseille coach Didier Deschamps might be without the services of left-back Jeremy Morel for several games after the defender received an injury. Stephane M’Bia is also reportedly going to miss out for a few weeks of Ligue 1 action due to injury which means
that Deschamps needs a replacement for the duo.
Reports now suggest that Mali international Djimi Traore could be on the verge of joining the Rhone outfit following rumours that Deschamps sees the 31-year-old as a good short-term replacement for the injured Morel.
The former Liverpool man is currently without a club following the end of his two-year contract with AS Monaco. Traore played 32 league games for Monaco between 2009 and 2011 and was not offered a new contract following the club’s relegation to Ligue 2 after
a dismal 2010/2011 Ligue 1 campaign.
The Malian was an integral part of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 squad that won the 2004/2005 edition of the UEFA Champions League under the guidance of the then Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez. However, since then the native of Saint-Ouen has seen a nomadic-like footballing
career.
After failing to impress at Charlton Athletic, Portsmouth, Stade Rennais and Birmingham City, AS Monaco offered the 31-year-old some consistency in terms of playing regularly for a club.
However, the relegation of Monaco has left the left-back in limbo and Marseille could offer the experienced Malian a chance of reviving his career once again. For their part, Les Phoceens are not looking to take any risks with the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mali-c2951 international who
has seen an injury-hit career following his departure from Liverpool in 2006.
Deschamps is considering offering him only a one-year contract as Traore suffered a serious knee injury last December which has raised doubts about his ability to perform consistently at the top level.
English championship side West Ham are also reportedly interested in the services of the experienced left-back which means that if Marseille’s interest cools off, the former Liverpool man will have another option to look forwards to.
