Olympique Marseille has turned out to be the favourite hunting ground for gang robbers in France. 33-year-old Vitorino Hilton has opted to leave France due to the recent armed robbery at his home that affected ten of his family members.
The centre-back and his family were at home when 6 armed robbers entered the house taking his family hostage and bruising him on the head using the butt of a gun. The robbers escaped with designer bags, computers, cash and Jewellery.
Hilton told the local radio station RMC, "As I'd been hit on the head, I was bleeding a lot, [my children] panicked.”
He also said his family were traumatized and wanted to return to Brazil. Talking to the media, he also said that he was unlucky in looking for a club in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858 before the transfer window closed and was considering the option of moving northwest for Stade
Francis-Le Blé, home of Stade Brestois.
Argentine midfielder Lucho Gonzalez, one of the highest paid footballers in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899, also fell victim to a similar incident in Aix-en Provence earlier in March this year.
Hilton has been in Marseille since 2008 and is among the 10 Marseille players who have been robbed in similar fashion including former club president, Jean-Claude Dassier. The Ayew brothers from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ghana-c2905 were robbed twice, in November 2010 and May 2011.
Addressing this problem, the sporting director of Les Phocéens said in a press conference, “Every time I signed a player this year the first questions they asked were 'can you guarantee security?' and 'are my family at risk?” He also added, “Bringing players
to Marseille in those conditions is complicated. You have to be a magician.”
2010/11 Ligue 1 runners-up will be competing in the UEFA Champions League in the upcoming term. Expressing his concerns for the upcoming competitions, the French tactician Didier Deschamps said, “These are terrible things that can happen and which, from
a psychological perspective, are traumatising.”
Meanwhile, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hilton-c16219 is confident in his abilities as a player and believes that he would be an asset to any club that he joins.
“I want to show that I still have qualities that I'm still the champion who finished the season in the Ligue 1 team of the season for three consecutive times. I'm not dead," said Hilton
He now waits for the response from OM management and is hopeful to find a suitable club elsewhere before the transfer window closes.
