While talking to RTL’s host Bixente Lizarazu, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 president, Vincent Labrune hinted that the club might not enter into the summer transfer window before they don’t sell any player
Things have certainly improved for Ligue 1 giants Olympique de Marseille in recent months. Following a poor start to the current campaign, Les Phoceens have started showing signs of their talent.
As things stand, Marseille are in fourth place in the Ligue 1 standings level on points with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130, AS Saint-Etienne and Stade Rennais. However, Les Phoceens are still far away from securing a place in the Champions League next season.
Currently, LOSC Lille occupy the last Champions League spot and lead Marseille by three points. Both sides have a game in hand but things are bound to go down the wire.
With their financial issues, Marseille need to play in the Champions League and a qualification for Europe’s most prestigious club competition could play a big role in this.
While talking to RTL’s host Bixente Lizarazu, Marseille president Vincent Labrune said that the club’s recruitment policy for the summer transfer window could rely heavily on player-sale which means that there might not be any new arrivals at the club.
Labrune says that Marseille “blew our payroll” and is now aiming to reduce it, something that cannot be done overnight.
“We should be less extravagant in the purchase of players and a little smarter. We have to sell better and especially buy cheaper. We have overpaid a number of players lately. At OM, one thing that struck me and knocked http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robert-c31222 Louis-Dreyfus, is that we always
paid a player twice his worth.”
Labrune further elaborated that the club will make good negotiations when it comes to selling a player in order to avoid the scenario they faced when Lucho Gonzalez left.
The midfielder returned to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 for free after Olympique de Marseille failed to sell the player in the last summer’s transfer window.
Though Marseille are keen on signing Montpellier Herault duo of Younes Belhanda and Olivier Giroud, Labrune knows that the club would never be able to do this given their economic situation.
