Olympique de Marseille player Stephane M’Bia not happy with change of position – report
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 next season is not a prospect he is looking forward to.
The 25-year-old Cameroonian has evolved into a solid central defensive midfielder. Last season, the defensive midfielder was used as a centre-back by coach Didier Deschamps. The Yaoundé-born player produced his best performances for Les Phoceens in defence
and is expected to play in the same position in the 2011/2012 campaign.
Though the Cameroonian accepts his new role at the club, the 25-year-old says that he does not take pleasure in becoming a defender for the Rhone club.
In recent years, Mbia’s position at the club has been a debate with opinion divided on the Cameroonian’s ability as a defensive midfielder. The former Stade Rennais man, while talking to the media admitted that he is not happy with his new position.
“I do not take pleasure in it. I am good enough to play in the middle of the park. I know what the attacker will do next. It’s my strength and I know I can win the ball. I rely on my speed. In addition I’m a good header of the ball,” said the 25-year-old
while talking to L’Equipe.
However, Mbia now thinks that he will be looking to score more goals for his club this season. The ‘defender’ says that he is looking to score between 10 and 15 goals for Marseille this season. The target set by Mbia seems to be a fairly ambitious one for
a player who scored just four goals for former club Stade Rennais in the 2007/2008 Ligue 1 campaign.
Since joining the Ligue 1 giants from Rennes in the summer of 2009, Mbia has made 53 appearances for the Phoceens and has scored just three goals which means that the recent target of around 10 or 15 goals set by the Cameroonian will take a lot of attacking
prowess from the Kadji Sports Academy graduate.
