Olympique de Marseille endured a woeful campaign where they finished 10th in Ligue 1. However, there were few players in the team who performed relatively better. Mathieu Valbuena was one of those players.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international has vowed to stay with Les Phoceens and help the club to regain its former glory. And now the club has responded to the loyalty of the player by refusing an offer from Russian outfit, Lokomotiv Moscow.
According to La Provence, Red-Greens have made a firm offer in order to attain the services of the highly-rated 27-year-old. However, OM have rejected the offer as they do not want to lose a player of such calibre.
Also, the Rhone giants value Valbuena much more than what Lokomotiv Moscow had offered. Mathieu Valbuena is a popular player in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Russia-c2991 and in the past, Zenit St. Petersburg have had made an approach for the Frenchman.
Mathieu Valbuena has been an important player for Marseille over the years. In 2011/2012 campaign, the Frenchman made 33 Ligue 1 appearances for Les Phoceens and in the process he managed to score 5 goals and provided several assists.
Didier Deschamps, the coach of the club, views Valbuena as an integral part of his team and the midfielder is still in his plans for the upcoming campaign.
The France international is set to represent France in the upcoming Euros and it is expected that a good showing from the Marseille man will increase his market value.
The 27-year-old has told several times that he intends to stay with the Velodrome and has no intentions of leaving the club this summer. The midfielder does not want to leave after a difficult season and wants to help Marseille in the 2012/2013 campaign.
However, that did not stop Lokomotiv Moscow who made a formal attempt to sign the midfielder. The Russian club have failed to qualify for the next year’s Europa league and the club wants to strengthen their ranks before the start of next season. They have
identified Valbuena as the player who could turn the things around for the club.
It is still unclear whether Lokomotiv Moscow will give up on the player after this setback or they will come back with an improved offer.
