Olympique de Marseille set price for goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steve-Mandanda-c34177 – French Ligue 1 news
French Ligue 1 giants, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127, have set a daunting 20 million Euros price tag on their talented goalkeeper, Steve Mandanda. In order to fund their activity for the upcoming summer transfer window, Les Phoceens have already decided to let
go of left-back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gonzalez-c15099. Their departures are expected to ease the burden on the club’s payroll.
Furthermore, Marseille officials have said that they are ready to receive offers from all over Europe for some of their players with Steve Mandanda being one of the men in demand. The Frenchman was recently voted the best goalkeeper in Ligue 1 during a UNFP
ceremony and is attracting a lot of interest from a host of European clubs, particularly from the English Premier League outfits.
Reports suggest that Tottenham Hotspur are observing Mandanda’s situation at the club and are ready to pounce on the opportunity to sign the goalkeeper. In the 2010/11 season, Spurs custodian Heurelho Gomes’ high-profile errors in crucial encounters have
arguably cost Harry Redknapp’s side a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League. The former Portsmouth manager is now looking to replace the error-prone Brazilian with a new goalkeeper.
Though a sum of 20 million Euros is a high asking price, it has been reported that Tottenham are considering launching a bid for the Marseille man. Steve Mandanda has said that he is happy to be playing at Stade Velodrome but will consider his options should
a good offer arrive. Rumours suggest that Marseille have slapped the price tag in order to deter clubs from making a bid for the 26-year-old.
The Kinshasa-born player of Congolese descent made his first Ligue 1 stint with Le Havre in 2005 and after making 67 appearances for Le Club Doyen, he joined Marseille in 2007. Mandanda was initially the understudy to Cedric Carrasso, who was the first choice
keeper at that time, but ousted the veteran following some impressive showings. Since then, the 6ft 1 keeper has made 111 appearances for the Rhone club. His contract at the club runs until March 2012 – the asking price of 20 million Euros is unlikely to be
met as the player might become a free agent next season should he refuse to sign a contract extension.
