In a shocking turn of events, Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly looking to offload Argentine international Lucho Gonzalez in the upcoming winter transfer window.
The midfielder joined Les Phoceens from Portuguese giants http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 in the summer of 2009 for a record fee of 18 million Euros. After guiding Marseille to a Ligue 1 Championnat in his first season, the Argentine failed to replicate his form last season as
Marseille failed to win back to back Ligue 1 crowns with Lille winning their first in over five decades.
In the summer transfer window, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Huracán-c39548 man was linked with a move away from the Stade Velodrome with La Liga side Malaga the fort runners for the signature of the influential midfielder. However, Marseille did not budge from their stance over
the fees for the South American.
However, it now appears that the club is willing to listen to offers for the midfielder who is clearly becoming more and more of a luxury coach Didier Deschamps cannot afford to take. Since Deschamps returned to the 4-4-2 formation after his team failed
to adapt to his new style of play, Lucho Gonzalez’s role at the club has become peripheral to say the least as he is failing to adapt to the system.
Early on, Gonzalez was a revelation under the 4-5-1 system but the rest of his teammates failed to adapt to it so the plan changed.
At a press conference ahead of the Champions League encounter against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 at the Emirates stadium, expressed his annoyance following a question about Lucho’s new status as a substitute for the French giants.
“I do not deny, I make choices. I understand the disappointment of those who do not start, it’s legitimate. But the important thing is also that the players should bring something,” said Deschamps.
Deschamps also cast doubts on Lucho Gonzalez’s future at the club by saying, “I do not make my team based on wages. It is the collective interest that matters. Lucho played on Tuesday in the league cup. I am primarily there to not lose my players. There
are different levels of fitness.”
The end of Deschamps’ statement indeed left a peculiar taste when the former Juventus manager said that he needs every single player in his team to be fit by December 21 which would be the last game Marseille play before the winter transfer window opens.
While Marseille’s financial condition does not allow the club to spend money on new players, the club is giving a hint about its plans to sell Lucho in order to make something out of a player who is clearly not having a great time in the Rhone province.
