Argentine midfielder Lucho Gonzalez has been linked with a move away from Stade Velodrome since the opening of this summer's transfer window earlier this June amidst Olympique de Marseille's financial woes.
The current financial situation of the club is forcing the Rhone giants to reduce the burden on the club’s payroll by letting go of some of the players whose wage bill is too much for Les Phoceens to afford. Lucho Gonzalez reportedly earns around 4 million
Euros a year which makes him one of the top earners in the Ligue 1.
The club has already let go of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Taye-Taiwo-c34728 was also a big earner at the club before the Nigerian international left the club for Serie A giants AC Milan.
Marseille bought Lucho Gonzalez from Portuguese giants http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 for 18 million Euros in the summer of 2009. The Phoceens are now looking to get at least 10 million Euros to let go of the influential playmaker.
However, most of the clubs interested in the services of the 30-year-old consider 10 million Euros a steep price for a player who is nearing the twilight of his career. La Liga side Malaga were highly interested in the Argentine international but Marseille’s
reluctance in selling the player for a cheap price means that Lucho is still a Marseille player.
Coach Didier Deschamps is keen on keeping the player who he signed two years ago but the Frenchman knows that club’s financial situation might not see things going his way.
Gonzalez’s agent, Federico Simonian is working hard to find a club for the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/River-Plate-c40368 man. AC Milan are keen on signing the talented midfielder but Simonian has ruled out the possibility of his player joining the Scudetto winners of the 2010/2012
Serie A campaign.
“We are working hard to find a club for Lucho. However, I don’t think that Lucho will sign for AC Milan. We are in contact with some Italian, Spanish and English clubs and by next week something will come up,” Simonian said while talking to RMC.
As things stand, Lucho Gonzalez is still a Marseille player and with the new season about to begin, it seems that Lucho might stay at the Rhone club for one more season which could be great news for Didier Deschamps who secretly wants to keep his first signing
of 2009.
