i've had this camera for almost a year now and am still trying to figure out how to check my battery power; meaning, how can i check how much battery i have left on my camera ?

I bet that if you READ & STUDY the Owner's Manual for your camera it will tell you how to not only check the battery but how to actually use the camera.

Sorry, I just realized what you were actually asking. The battery does not give a percentage. Instead it only indicates three bars for the battery life. You'll never get an exact percentage. Instead the bars should go to half and then vanish asa the battery is depleted. Essentially, when you are down to the last bar, it's time to change batteries. You only have about 50-100 shots (depending on use of live view).

You should able to locate the battery meter on to top left corner of the LCD display and on the viewfinder display column just above the exposure mode and next to metering mode.
