Question:

Omaha Dining--second round?

I'm trying this question again ...

Every year my road trip takes me through Omaha for a one night stay in the area of I-80 and S 144th.

And every year my problem is finding a place within a few miles of my motel to eat dinner!

(Please note a FEW as in a 3-4 mile radius from I-80 & S 144th. I don't intend to tour Omaha)

I've tried Millard Roadhouse a few times...it's "ok."

I'm looking for advice on tasty food and value--a small dinner for around $8.

I've Googled these places if you have opinions:

Shirley's Diner on S 139th

Hawaiian Grill on U Street

China Bistro on P Street

Great Wall on Q Street

and

Sapp Brothers on Sapp Brothers Drive (that BIG coffee pot you can see from I-80 LOL)

If you know of other places in that area suggest away!

I don't mind a local franchise but would like to avoid the national chains.

Thanks!

  1. Skip those.  I live in the neighborhood and can tell you of a few better places.  Try El Bee's for mexican, south of the I-80 & 144th interchange, the Millard Roadhouse for good food resonably priced at 135th and Millard Avenue, Apple Buffet at 136th and Q for a resonable but tasty chinese buffet, Don & Millies at 144th and Harrison for great burgers or cheese frenchies.  These are all close to where you are staying.  For great local food, though, head to the Old Market and try some of the tavern food for good food in a great environment.  Also, Michaels in the Old Market and the O Chinese restaurant at 10th & Farnam are reasonably priced sit-down places.  You should at least go down to the old market once during your visit.

Welcome to Omaha, hope you have a great visit!
