Question:

Omaha High/Low Question?

Here is a scenario I need clarification on in a H/L game:

Two of my hole cards are A-2.

The flop comes 2, X, X...all low cards. The turn is another low card. River is meaningless.

Do I not win the low pot? If not, why not? There are three low cards on board. Can I not win the low if my 2 is paired even though there are three other low cards?

I'm a little confused so any explanation would be helpful. Thank you.

  1. It depends.  Instead of xs, give us specific numbers.  Do you have any other low cards in your hand?

This is precisely why i do not like going into a flop with JUST A2.  I see so many players do it, it's risky.  I want at least one other low card, because so often, you'll get flops like

    2 5 7.

Now you have only bottom pair for a high and no low.  Even if you get another low card, like a 4, A3 will beat you (you will have 7, 5, 4, 2, they will have 7, 5, 3, 2, A) and if you don't get one, you're screwed.  Which is why I prefer hands like A234 or A23x or A24x, etc.  They give you more than one shot at the low.

  2. chad has it right

hand are ranked top to bottom

    A 2 3 4 8  loses to       76543

  3. It depends on what the low cards are and what the other person has.  Your 2 getting counter-fitted means that you can't use it.  If someone else can make a low hand using the 2 on the board, they might have a better hand.

You have A-2.  If the board is J-8-5-4-2 you're playing 8-5-4-2-A.

If someone else has A-3, they're playing 5-4-3-2-A and they win.

Low hands are read from the highest to the lowest, not lowest to highest.  7-5-4-3-2 beats 8-4-3-2-A even though the 2nd player has an A.

  4. if there is not A-8 hand made, using five cards, there is no low pot.

Sorry- my bf is trying to explain to me and this is what i got.  hope it helps
