Omar Andres Narvaez unanimously pins Jose Cabrera to grab WBO super flyweight title – Boxing News
Omar Andres Narvaez, the former WBO flyweight champion, put forth the Argentinean boxing fanatics an epic performance and grabbed a unanimous decision win over Mexican Jose Cabrera, former WBC Youth World super flyweight champion and grasped the WBO super
flyweight title, in a bout held on April 21, 2012.
The ring for the event was stretched at Estadio Aldo Cantoni situated in San Juan, Argentina and the Saturday night show was organised and promoted by the prolific duo of  Osvaldo Rivero of O.R. Promotions and Hector Garcia of HG Boxing.
The above bout headlined the pay-per-view whereas the event was co-headlined by the IBF Latino featherweight championship bout between Mauricio Javier Munoz and Ramon Contreras. Omar, 36, is a top ranked pugilist who has won and successfully retained several
titles.
Currently ranked number five in the world, Omar, was entering in his career’s 39th bout and boasted 35 wins, 19 via knockout. The veteran pugilist recently collided with Nonito Donaire to grab the WBC and WBO bantamweight titles but his efforts went in vain.
Narvaez collected a unanimous decision loss in his favour against Nonito. The southpaw Argentinean proud grabbed his WBO super flyweight gold from Everth Briceno and since then defended it successfully against Victor Zaleta, Cesar Seda, and William Urina
until the time came to take on the world champion Nonito.
Omar, also known as The ‘El Huracán’, possesses, most probably, the unique record of holding and defending the WBO flyweight title for the highest number of times. With such an impressive resume, the odds were definitely in his favour from the very beginning.
His Saturday night opponent, Jose, also known as ‘The Matador’, was in his career’s 25th bout and exhibited 20 wins with eight via KO. Jose has collected some impressive victories in his young career but recently is going through a strenuous time period.
Cabrera collected a draw decision against Daniel Rosas and lacked the requisite advantages to overshadow the more experienced, agile, powerful, resilient, and above all multiple time former world champion Omar.
The bout was almost a one-sided one since Omar set the pace and he was the aggressor whereas Jose was nowhere to be found, the reason why he got frustrated and due to somewhat inadvertent actions, got point deductions in the eighth and 10th round.
At the end of the bout, even the whole arena roared with Omar’s name since his performance was ample proof of the fact that he has won the bout. Later on, two of the three judge’s allocated 118-108 score and the third one awarded 120-106 to Omar.
With this win, Omar has strengthened his legendary win streak and has improved to 36 wins. Jose, on the contrary, has collected his career’s third defeat.
