Sporting Kansas City lost 2-0 to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Houston-Dynamo-c39542 in the Eastern Conference final on Sunday at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. One of the main reasons in Sporting’s disappointing loss at their home ground was the absence of Omar Bravo.
The Mexican striker was nursing a groan injury prior to the game but had informed the coach of his willingness to participate. Peter Vermes, however, showed reluctance in given Bravo the green signal to play up front.
Not only did Bravo miss the start, he could enter the pitch only on the 85th minute mark. It was a disappointing decision for Vermes but the head coach refused to comment on the issue.
Although Bravo had revleaed his happiness in seeing out his contract, the latest snub might force the star player to rethink his options.
Bravo said he will be discussing his status with the management when he returns back to Kansas.
“I am super happy in Kansas City,” he told the media, “but I have to think about the professional aspect, and obviously situations like Sunday give a lot to think about and talk about with Peter, with Robb Heineman, SKC owner and everyone in Kansas City.”
The Designated Player scored a brace in 2011 season opener but picked up a Sports Hernia in the following game. After missing almost six weeks because of the surgery, the player made a comeback with a blast and helped the Sporting to a promising position
in the Eastern Conference.
Despite his good performances throughout the season, Vermes hesitated in giving Bravo a chance to start in the Conference finale.
The Mexican stated that he does not want to discuss the decisions made in the final game but reiterated that he surely will have a word with the management about his position in the squad.
“I’m not asking for an explanation of whether you play or not – I’ve never been that kind of player – but there were things that were said one day and then things were different later,” he said.
Vermes, on the other hand, asserted that he does not want to lose Bravo. He has one year left on his contract and should oblige by the agreement and return back to Kansas City in the pre-season.
