Omar Figueroa knocks out Ramon Ayala at ShoBox’s ‘The New Generation’ Friday night show - Boxing news
Omar Figueroa, the current WBO Youth lightweight champion, easily collected his career’s huge win over Ramon Ayala, the former WBC Youth World light welterweight champion, by knocking his senses out in just the second round of the 10-round bout.
The bout which was basically dubbed as ‘the clash between the young guns’ co-headlined the pay-per-view setup by Golden Boy Promotions’ Richard Schaefer. The event was headlined by the championship bout between Randy Caballero and Jose Luis Araiza.
The ring for the bout was stretched at Fantasy Springs Casino situated in Indio, California, United States. Omar was entering in his rookie career’s 16th bout. The young lad has been victorious in a total 14 bouts and collected one draw decision against
Arturo Quintero.
Also known as the ‘Panterita’, Omar has collected 11 of his wins by knockout, an aspect that easily exhibits the fighting style of the 22-year-old. Omar was coming from an emphatic win over Michael Perez and collected his career’s first ever title that is
the vacant WBO Youth lightweight gold.
His opponent for the Friday night bout was the Mexican Ayala who has been in a total 26 bouts. The 23-year-old orthodox has collected 23 wins, two losses and one draw decision against Franklin Frias.
Well known as ‘Nino de Oro’, Ayala has collected 11 wins by knockout and was entering the ring with a five-bout win streak. The duo was equally competent but Omar had some advantages over Ayala.
Omar had the reach benefit and covered a huge area which helped him in collecting and placing more well-targeted fists. In addition, Omar was coming from a title win and over an opponent that was also on a huge win streak.
Ayala, on the contrary, though was on a win streak yet fought opponents who were newbie’s and were just kicking off their careers. The bout started and Ayala instantly went on the defending mode. Omar waited for Ayala to come and as soon as he started to
throw jabs, Omar started countering him and took absolute advantage of his reach.
Omar almost battered Ayala’s body and face while countering his aimless throws and when the Mexican started to lose his senses, Omar went in for the kill and threw the decisive punches. Ayala, unable to defend himself moved backwards and Lou Moret, the bout-referee,
had no other choice but to halt the bout.
After the second round emphatic knockout win, young Omar boastfully stated, “It surprised me when he didn’t try to box because he is a pretty tall guy. Once he started throwing power shots with me, I knew it wouldn’t last long. He had decent power so I was
careful of his wild shots but I never thought the fight would make it past the third or fourth round.”
Omar now has 15 wins in his account and Ayala has collected his career’s third loss.
