Omar Henry unanimously outfoxes Tyrone Selders in 10-round non-title bout – Boxing News
Omar Henry, the undefeated American light middleweight, defended his undefeated status by collecting an impressive unanimous decision win over Tyrone Selders, in a 10-round bout held on June 23, 2012.
The pay-per-view dubbed as ‘Viva Don King II’ was organised and promoted by the legendary promoter Don King of Don King Productions.
Omar and Tyrone fought on the undercard of the fight card headlined by the epic clash between Tony Grano and DaVarryl Williamson for the vacant NABF heavyweight gold.
The ring for the event was set up at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Hollywood, Florida, United States. The Saturday night showdown also witnessed Angelo Santana in action against heavily experienced Justin Savi, co-headlining the fight card.
Omar, 25, who was desperate to show his critics that he is a talented young brawler, entered the ring with a knockout win in his mind. It is this reason why from the very first second Henry adopted a sheer aggressive style and tried to just batter and pummel
the Louisiana proud.
With an undefeated streak in a total of 12 bouts, Henry already possessed an upper hand over Tyrone. It must be noted that Omar was extremely frustrated as he was thumbed down by four pugilists.
Tyrone, a last minute substitute, accepted the challenge and during the bout did prove that he came prepared and was not ready to give up easily especially via knockout. The first two rounds, Omar adopted the aggressive stance but later on shifted to a bit
sensible targeted one.
Omar started each and every round by moving in speedily and in the last seconds slowed down to throw jabs while carefully analysing Tyrone. Selders, also known as ‘Solja Black’, showed high levels of resilience and shocked Omar by absorbing his powerful
initial attacks.
The 10-round wild ride ended and the judges awarded the bout to the obvious winner Omar Henry by 100-90, 100-90, and 100-88 scores. After the bout, the victorious Omar praised Tyrone and stated, “I tried to knock him down but he was a tough guy. I was full
of speed tonight. I was prepared well and felt great. I loved putting on a great performance for the fans. I turned it up at the end of each round because I wanted to finish strong for the judges.”
The excited Henry further added that he wants to take on either Cornelius Bundrage or Cory Spinks in near future. “I’d like to fight K9 Bundrage or Cory Spinks after they fight for a world title one week from tonight. I will fight anyone at 154 pounds.”
Omar now has 12 wins in his resume and nine via knockout whereas Tyrone has received his third career loss.
