Omar Infante’s walk-off single helps Florida Marlins beat Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4 – MLB Update
Florida Marlins’ utility player Omar Infante took a walk-off single in the ninth inning as the club defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4 at the Sun Life Stadium in Florida on April 25.
Infante made a single around the loaded bases on the error of Jerry Sands. It was the tie breaking single which led the Marlins over their rivals. Infante expressed his winning moments as, “I've been in that situation many times before, and I'm happy to
finally do it with the Marlins. The team is playing so well, and I'm happy to help us get the win today.”
Infante was unable to score on the sacrifice hit towards the first and second base due to impressive fielding by Vicente Padilla. The Marlins’ short-stop Hanley Ramirez also dominated with the bat as he made one run on a single hit and batted for almost
five innings like a strong pinch-hitter. The Marlins were trailing during the eighth inning.
Mike Stanton hit a high fly towards the centre-field position when Infante covered second base. Gaby Sanchez extended the Marlins to 4-3 by hitting an RBI single. Brian Sanches had a poor day with the bat, but he was outstanding with ball as he pitched one
inning without giving away a run or a hit.
The Marlins’ Manager Edwin Rodriguez was pleased when Infante played a winning shot. He exclaimed, “Nine? Wow. Back in spring training, we were talking about winning close games, and they've been taking that to the next level. It was supposed to be a sacrifice
bunt, and he bunted it back to the pitcher. Omar getting the hit was good to see.”
On the other side, the Dodgers’ outfielder Andre Ethier delivered a single in the first inning and tied the record hitting streak of 22 games in the Major Leagues.
Jon Garland threw well, but not like a game winner. He allowed two runs on four hits including two earned runs, four strike-outs and also gave two homers to Chris Coghlan. The Dodgers’ closer Jonathan Broxton pitched poorly at the end of the game as he gave
two runs on two hits and gave away a walk to Emilio Bonifacio.
