Question:

Omar Khadr: How should "child soldiers" be treated?

He was but a child when he committed an adult crime, which btw, he denies he committed.

What do you think is the truth in this morbid matter?

How should children brain washed with insane indoctrination be treated?

Should they be punished severely for acts they have been taught from babyhood, are right & good?

Should attempts be made, instead, to rehabilitate them, with education & community service?

i have no clue myself...your thoughts please.

  1. In the particular case of Omar Khadr  given his family "pedigree" and training I think it was in the public interest that he was detained by any means necessary at 15 he was already seriously dangerous.

The whole Guantanamo bay issue needs resolution and fast , though.

  2. man these people are harsh!Well in my opinion i think he should be in prison, but execution? thats crazy at fifteen you can easily be influenced by things so in my opinion killing him isnt right. But i still think like what the h**l is a canadian doing in afghanistan?and if they let him go he'll be mad at the u.s. for his treatment in guantanomo, so h**l attack us again. I think the whole system needs change, if you treat people bad they are gonna hate you, so i think we should try brainwashing them into loving america rather then hitting them . And  these people can obviously be brainwashed...

  3. I think if they are 14 or older they need to be punished by time in jail or some other adult punishment. Yet while they are sitting in jail they should be made to undergo treatment to bring them back to sanity. If they are older than 14 then punishment as an adult if they are to be executed then they should just be keep in jail until their time has come.

  4. He was old enough to commit the crime,So he was old enough to know what he was doing,Who knows if rehabilitation will work,Lock him up and throw away the key.

I suspect Omar Khadr is being treated as a "special case" by the Americans because of his family background - which does (or did) have links to Al-Qaeda. In effect his situation can be construed as that of a hostage rather than a POW.

Whatever his background the fact remains that he was still a child when he fell into the hands of the Americans.

  6. if a child is taught to behave in a certain way from an early age that is the only way they know how to behave. therefor it makes sense that if they are rehabilitated they can go on to live crime free lives. if this person was taught that he had to kill to survive and considers that he was doing his duty he will not see that he has committed any crime. he has to be made to understand why the rest of the world consider his actions so bad. if he can`t comprehend this at some point the chances are the problem would have been there regardless of his upbringing

  7. If he is big enough to play with Grenades and Guns then he is big enough to deal with the punishment.

Sorry. No Sympathy for a wolf in sheeps clothing.

  8. i blame the adults,who taught the kids..then,to rehabilitate them,while there still young..as for the adults..shoot them.mary.c.

  9. Since  young kids were quite capable of throwing grenades and shooting innocent men in Viet Nam, they were good enough to be shot and killed as well. If the kids are shooting at me, they are going to die very quickly. That worked for me then, and it does now. That's that. This kid, and all the rest of them should be shot and the problem will be eliminated fast and cheap.

  10. I think at 15 a person is more than old enough to understand what they are doing and that there can be consequences to their actions.

Sorry MARY C but I disagree with you on some points to your answer. Who's to say that the adults you think should be shot were not "taught as children"and if so shouldn't they be rehabilitated as well and not shot?
