Omar Vizquel added to Toronto Blue Jays’ big league roster – MLB News
According to a leading sports website, Toronto Blue Jays have decided to add veteran infielder Omar Vizquel to their 2012 Major League Baseball roster. In some ways, Vizquel has contributed a lot to the game. The 44 year old made his MLB debut in 1989 and since then he has give considerable results to make a name for himself.
When Vizquel played his first majors game for Seattle Mariners, Toronto’s owner Alex Anthopoulos was just an 11 year old school-going kid. Twenty three years later, Vizquel has finally made impression on the General Manager to win a place on the Blue Jays majors’ league roster. Vizquel is expected to play as a backup fielder for the Blue Jays on the Opening day.
The guy has looked in decent touch since the start of 2012 Spring Training and he will be hoping to continue his good run throughout this season to end his career on a high note. While the Most Valuable Players Award may not come easily for Vizquel, he can certainly make himself proud by helping his team reach the World Series finals.
“Omar’s here as a player first and foremost,” Anthopoulos insisted. “Those other things are just an added bonus. . . . He had a very good camp and he deserved to be on the team.”
He did everything we would have hoped for,” Anthopoulos further added. 
After Blue Jays’ spectacular 9-3 over Baltimore Orioles, Vizquel stated that he is content with his MLB career. Vizquel’s presence can be of great importance for the Blue Jays as he can help the youngsters learn tricks of the trade to become successful baseball players. Toronto’s roster looks quite inexperienced and Vizquel experience can turn out to be handy for Anthopoulos’ team in the upcoming regular season.
Vizquel has performed similar duties in his tenure with the Texas Rangers and Chicago White Sox, aiding development of promising prospects. It will be interesting to see if he can help the Blue Jays win their first World Series title since 1993. While it is not clear how long Vizquel can keep himself going for, he has certainly shown no signs of slowing down in recent years.
