Omar Vizquel’s sacrifice fly helps Toronto Blue Jays edge out Boston Red Sox 4-3-MLB Update
Second baseman Omar Vizquel manages a sacrifice fly in the last inning as the Toronto Blue Jays edge out the Boston Red Sox 4-3 at Fenway Park, Boston, Massachusetts in the third game of the three match series on September 9, 2012.
Blue Jays trailed by two runs before the beginning of the fourth. However by posting three runs in one inning alone, they surpassed the Red Sox by one run. Thereafter only thing they needed to win the game was to keep the opponents from scoring any more
runs.
While they were successful for some time in this regard, the bottom of the sixth proved alarming for their victory as the score was tied from the one run that Boston managed in this inning.
By the time two innings ended up scoreless after this, it was highly possible that the game will enter into the additional innings.
Thanks to the timely sacrifice fly coming off Vizquel, Blue Jays restored their lead in the last inning of the match.
Relief pitcher Casey Janssen earned his 20th save for the Blue Jays by finishing the ninth inning scoreless.
As far as the Blue Jays’ starter was concerned, Carlos Villanueva completed a spell of six innings. He yielded seven hits and gave up three runs on Sunday. For as long as he stayed on the mound, victory for the team was uncertain.
Offensively left fielder Rajai Davis thrashed two hits in three at-bats for Toronto. Similarly right fielder Anthony Gose was 2-for-4 in the game.
Toronto's manager John Farrell has commented on Vizquel who is close to achieving a milestone regarding the number of hits struck by him in his career.
"I think it's only fitting that as we go through this last stretch of the season, the places that he's played the most in, whether it's here in Boston, New York, Baltimore, he'll be on the field," John Farrell said.
Vizquel describes his pleasure after contributing for a game-winning RBI through the sacrifice fly on Sunday.
"I'm glad that things went all right. My last at-bat was a good at-bat -- a game-winning RBI," said Vizquel.
As the series has concluded now, the Blue Jays will want to take positives from it and use them for winning matches ahead in the season. Let’s see as to what extent they can be successful in this regard.
