Omc io repair help?

have 175 hp omc 302 ford having trouble with motor that lifts outdrive works only part time grrrrrr how do you change it out thanks

  1. Sorry, we need a little more info-some early omc units actually used a 'gear drive' electric motor, similar to an automotive starter motor, as a lift and trim unit.  Later models used an electrically driven hydraulic unit-world of difference here, so be more specific-one thing though, you might consider getting a professional involved on this one, depending on your boat type, this can be an extremely frustrating repair.  Good luck, and be safe.


  2. You have the older worm gear motor, and yes you can remove it with the boat in the water.  There's a coupling that the motor shaft "keys" into.  I'm more concerned that it, it works some times, that would indicate that the motor is in fact working and your problem may be elsewhere.
