Omega 3 fatty acids for fish haters?

What are the best things I can eat which have omega 3 in them (other than fish and seafood)? I know about flax seed, walnuts, etc.

Does olive oil have omega 3 fatty acids? How about kiwis?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Diets high in alpha-linolenic acid may promote strong bones, the results of a small study suggest, and contrary to what many people believe, you don't need to eat fish or take fish oil tablets to raise levels of this omega-3 fatty acid.

  2. There is an excellent supplement called Udo's Oil that is rich in not only Omega-3 but also 6&9. I think supplementing is better than trying to eat too much fish as fish can become toxic because of the metals present. Oil supplements (the good ones) are filtered) to prevent this poisoning.

  3. why not just get the pills that taste like nothing?

  4. You can try taking a fish oil supplement. They are completely tasteless (so you won't have to worry about not liking fish), have all the good fatty acids of fish, and are usually very inexpensive.

Also, I've seen frozen yogurt and eggs that are fortified with Omega 3s- they usually feed the hens flaxseed to get Omega 3s into the eggs.

  5. Kiwis do have some, but it's mostly in the seed- if you could find some oil made from the seed that would be a good source. So is borage, another plant.

There are also eggs you can buy where the chickens have been fed foods that helps the eggs have a good amount.

  6. I am a nutritionist and I must say I would agree with you on the "no pills" statement. Unless you have a serious deficiency there is no reason to take your nutrients artificially as they are loosing a lot of their value most of the times.

Unfortunately my friend, fish (and fish oils) is the best way to get omega 3 Fatty Acids (salmon, tuna etc) but if you can't eat that you should try other seafood (shrimps, mussels, octopus, crab etc). Seeds are also a good way to get your essential fatty acids . Try walnuts, sunflower and flax seeds. Finally some omega 3 are found in green vegetables like cauliflower, cabbage, spinach and cloves.

    Hope I helped!
