Omega Dubai Desert Classic: Tiger Woods remains winless
Speculations were running wild with Tiger Woods finally showing us some action and glimpses of his former glory. We, however, are sad to report that stories about how the Omega Dubai Desert Classic might just be his big breakthrough have proven out to be
nothing more than a wild goose chase. The ex-champ has finished at Dubai tied for the 20th spot.
In fact it seemed like Alvaro Quiros was the only one on the course who remembered how to play like a Tiger. The Spaniard came into the final round all guns blazing and shot a hole in one, an eagle and a triple-bogey eight. His aggressive power play was
deeply reminiscent of the way Woods used to play a tournament in the good old days.
Woods had started his day a shot behind the co-leaders James Kingston, Rory McIlroy and Anders Hansen. He bogeyed two of the first three holes he played and ended the day with a double-bogey seven grand finale. This left him seven shots behind the winner
with a three-over-par 75.
The golfer has remained optimistic and has put his best foot forward in front of the media ever since his very controversial return to golf. However, the player could not help but succumb to the frustration at the third hole. Woods momentarily lost his cool
when he yelled at photographers claiming that the clicks of the cameras had disturbed him during his swing. The approach shot went awry and sailed left to end up as a bogey.
At the 12th hole, the golfer again earned some contempt from the audience when he ignored all rules of etiquette and was spotted spitting on the green. An advice if we may Mister Woods? Such behaviour does not really endear you to the audience.
Let’s not push your luck; you need all the well wishers you can get. Let the 121 affairs be the lowest you sink, okay?
As far as his game is concerned, Woods seems to be playing a game of hide and seek with us. This is the second straight event where he seemed to finally have gotten a handle on things but went on to finishing with a very uncompetitive final round score.
The Farmers Insurance Open, where he had been the supreme ruler in previous years, was much the same.
There was a point on the 14th hole when he teed off that it still looked like he had a winning chance. He was just four strokes behind the leader but his drive bounced over some rocks, placed there for decorative purposes, and as a result the
ball ended up in a bunker. The end result? A bogey. This proved to be the players undoing and after that it was all just a lackluster performance.
Woods remains winless since January 2009. Perhaps it’s time to retire now when people can still recall his glory days.
