Omega European Masters Betting Preview
The Omega European Masters tees off at the Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland on Thursday. Bettor.com takes a look at those golfers who are expected to make it big at this years’ edition.
Brett Rumford
The first player on the list is Brett Rumford. The reason for choosing this guy is that he won the Omega European Masters in 2007. Secondly, the Australian is in fine form and it can be seen from his remarkable performance at the Johnnie Walker Championship in Gleneagles last week. The 33-year-old came second to winner Edoardo Molinari. However, the most interesting aspect was that both these golfers were head-to-head in the tournament. In fact, Rumford gave a 70 in the last round when Molinari managed a 71.
Going into his past record, Brett Rumford has three top ten finishes in four of his last starts. Media reports suggest that this Australian has a habit of taking a quick start. This is exactly what is being expected of him one again at the Omega European Masters. As for the player, he too shares a special bond with this course in Switzerland. This can be justified from his past performances at the venue. Rumford gave a wonderful 64 in 2006 at the Crans-sur-Sierre followed by the same score in 2007. However, he gave a better performance with a 62 in the first round last year with three consecutive days of 67 which helped Rumford clinch the third spot of the leaders’ board.
According to media reports, Brett Rumford is known for taking charge after the first round and if it does happen at Crans-sur-Sierre, then we surely are expecting an Australian rising to the top half of the leaders’ board.
Miguel Angel Jimenez
The third betting favorite is Miguel Angel Jimenez. The golfer, who left his nephew’s wedding to attend the Johnnie Walker Championship, kicked Simon Dyson out of the final team of the Ryder Cup. This Spaniard will be the most experienced player in this event as he has played in this event for the last 21 years. Moreover, he had top ten finishes on 8 occasions which is an impressive feat in itself. In fact, Miguel has been in the top five on four occasions - two of his top five finishes came in 2009 and 2010.
However, Miguel has a draw back as well. He has performed poorly at the fairways along with facing problems in finding the greens which is the core requirement for wining at the Crans-sur-Sierre. However, with a superb short game and a strong intent, Miguel is not far from the top 3 of the final day leader board.
Philip Archer
The last man on the list is Philip Archer. Although he has missed the cut for this venue on two occasions but that was when his game was not in good form. However, he has performed brilliantly at this course as well. Archer’s first performance came in 2006 where he finished in the top 12 while he was the runners up after losing the playoffs in 2007. According to experts, Archer follows some kind of hidden trend in which one top finish leads to the other therefore it can be predicted that his finish in the 10th place at the Johnnie Walker Championship can lead him to another top line finish in this week’s event. Archer finished at the 9th place last week which signifies that the player is in good form and can take charge at the Omega European Masters.
