Steve Was Hired To Give Out Free Movie Tickets To Customers,

During The Grand Opening Of The Cinema.

On Fiday He Gave Out 1/2 Of His Supply.

On Saturday He Gave Out 1/3 Of What Was Left.

On Sunday He Gave Out 1/4 Of The Remaining Amount3.

On monday He Distributed 1/3 Of What Was Left.

On Tuesday He Gave Away 1/6 Of What Remained.

And Had 60 Tickets Left.

How Many Did He Begin With?

PLEASE- Explain How To Do This.

  1. ok so pretty much what you are going to be doing is multiplication. you will start with 60 and go backwards. the way to proof it is to divide the way it tells you to.

    60x6 = 360

    360x3= 1080

    1080x4 = 4320

    and so on and so forth


  2. (5/6)*(2/3)*(3/4)*(2/3)*(1/2)*(original amount) is what he has left after he gives portions of it away - which happens to be 60.

    so original amount is 60/ (5/36) = 432 tickets.

    basically he has (1/2*original amount) left in his hand the first day, (2/3)*[(1/2)*original amount] left the second day, (3/4)*[2/3*1/2*original amount] left the third day, etc

    we get the amount he has by doing (1-(fraction sold))

    ex: Tuesday: sold 1/6 of what remained, that's (1- 1/6) or 5/6 * what remained still in his hand.
