  1. Males have visible scrotal sacks and their a**s and p***s are further apart than in the females. Females also have dimples on their bellies(teats)

if your rats are female then the one mounting is being dominant. As long as they are not actually fighting do not worry to much about it. Make sure your rats have a good size cage as too small a cage will cause dominance issues and possible fighting.

If your rat is possibly pregnant then seperate it from the rest as they can become very territorial for a time. She could have 9-12 babies so will need her own cage with her litter for those reasons too.

  2. When rats are in heat even if they're all girls, they're going to react like they are mating. So even if they're all girls is normal for that to happen.

  3. Separate the pregnant female, put the other female and male in separate cages, and for the pregnant one provide fresh food and water always, so give more bedding and clean the pregnant females cage to be new and just wait, also keep a good supply of moist veggies so the pregnant females milk supply is good, once you see babies wait for about 25 days then separate the babies male and female in different cages and all the males in one cage, all the females in the other and everything should be OK.

  4. I recently got two new female rats as friends for my female who was on her own and the same thing happened to me.  When I introduced them one of the younger ones started humping Koko (the older female).  Sometimes she puts up with it other times she kicks the little one off her but so far it is harmless.  It could be playing or fighting just make sure no one is getting hurt (no blood no foul apparently).

If one of your rats was a boy I think you may have noticed by now as they have huge testicles!

  5. If the new one has testicles (you would notice) then yes, you've got a male rat mating with a female. However, what you're probably witnessing is a dominance display between two girls. "Play mating" isn't uncommon for female rats living together.

  6. If her tummy gets bigger (bloated) and if she moves bed into new place and makes it look like nest then she is pregnant, best way to put pregnant rat in a cage on her own, if shared in cage, other rats will eat her babies

u will need to check their s*x, if u see testicles hanging out, so thats male.

  7. I have a cage of four females, and they do what is called "mock mating". It usually happens when one of them is in heat, and that happens every four or five days. Unless you've just now put them together, the females would be pregnant way before now. Look at the one that you think may be male. If you've got a male that is definitely weaned from it's mother, you will be able to see their boy bits.

Separate them now if he is a real "he", and get ready to call your vet for more info.

  8. if the new rat is a male then you will see his balls.

  9. It's usually really easy to tell whether rats are male or female. They tend to have really big 'bits' if they're male - so take a look and see if they do or not. If you can't see anything, it's likely that they really are female and are just fighting.

  10. First you need to double check the rats and see if they are definitely all female.  It should be very easy to tell if one of them is a male, it will have very obvious testicles.

If they are definitely all female, there's nothing to worry about.  Female rats will 'hump' each other, it's normal :-D   They are just sorting out who the dominant ones are in the cage.  Sometimes the female humping can get worse when they come in heat, which is usually every 3-5 days.

On the other hand, if one of them is male, you need to take him out immediately, although it will doubtlessly already be a case of both your female rats being pregnant.  Pregnant rats can stay with their cage-mates during their pregnancy, and sometimes after the birth, it all depends on the individuals some new mothers get stressed by other females around, some are fine, just look for changes in their behaviours.

Here's hoping though that they are all females and are just sorting out their cage hierarchy x*x
